Shear Bolt
A high strength, 160,000 pounds per square inch (1100 megapascals) minimum tensile strength externally threaded fastener designed for use in applications involving great shear stress. The head is designed to accommodate an external wrench or driver. The head is not designed to be held or driven with an inserted driver, nor is it designed for rotation by the thumb and fingers. The unthreaded portion is of specific grip length, plated or unplated, and is machined to a tolerance of one thousandth (0.001) of an inch (0.025 mm) or less of a specific diameter for items one inch (25 mm) or less in diameter. Items over one inch (25 mm) in diameter shall have a tolerance of fifteen ten thousandths (0.0015) of an inch (0.038 mm) or less. The nominal major diameter of the threads shall be at least one thousandth (0.001) of an inch (0.025 mm) below the minimum shank diameter, but not below the minimum major diameter for applicable class of fit, as shown in the screw thread standards, fed std h28 and/or other nationally recognized standards. A locking feature may be incorporated in the design of the head or threads. See bolt, machine and bolt, clevis.

Datasheet
- End Item Identification
-
f/a-18e aircraft
The national stock number or the identification information of the end equipment for which the item is a part.
- Criticality Code Justification
-
agav
The master requirement codes of those requirements which are technically critical by reason of tolerance, fit, performance,or other characteristics which affect identification of the item.
- Fastener Length
-
2.294 inches minimum and 2.324 inches maximum
The dimension, measured along a line parallel to the longitudinal axis, from the largest bearing surface of the fastener head to the extreme opposite end,or as specifically designated for other type fasteners.
- Grip Diameter
-
0.3735 inches minimum and 0.3745 inches maximum
The length of a straight line which passes through the center of the grip, and terminates at the circumference.
- Grip Length
-
1.615 inches minimum and 1.635 inches maximum
A measurement of the longest dimension of the grip,in distinction from width.
- Head Height
-
0.327 inches minimum and 0.347 inches maximum
A measurement from the bottom to the top of the head,in distinction from depth.
- Head Style
-
spline extended washer
The style designation indicating the configuration that most nearly corresponds to the appearance of the head.
- Material Document And Classification
-
ams 5662 assn std single material response or ams 5663 assn std single material response overall
The specification, standard, or manufacturer's reference and the classification designation, such as class, condition, temper, and the like, that identifies the material.
- Material
-
nickel alloy 718 overall
The chemical compound or mechanical mixture properties of which the item is fabricated.
- Minimum Tensile Strength
-
220000 pounds per square inch
The maximum rated load in tension applied in a longitudinal direction, per unit of cross-sectional area, that the material can withstand without rupture.
- Nominal Thread Diameter
-
0.3750 inches
The nominal length of a straight line which passes through the center of the threaded portion, and terminates at the circumference.
- Surface Finish
-
32.0 microinches bearing surface of head
Designates the specific surface roughness rating, representing the arithmetic average deviation of the surface from the meanline in profile.
- Thread Class
-
3a
A numeric-alpha designator indicating the pitch diameter tolerance and an external or internal thread.
- Thread Direction
-
right-hand
The direction of the thread when viewed axially. A right-hand thread winds in a clockwise direction while a left-hand thread winds in a counterclockwise direction.
- Thread Length
-
0.659 inches minimum
A measurement of the extent of threads, including incomplete threads, along a line parallel to the longitudinal axis.
- Thread Series Designator
-
unjf
A designation distinguishing one group of thread diameter-pitch combinations from another by the number of threads per measurement scale for a specific diameter.
- Thread Quantity Per Inch
-
24
The number of threads on the item per linear inch measured on a line parallel to the thread axis.
